Soldier Comforts a Wounded Iraqi Child

Above photo (taken October 2006) shows Chief Master Sgt. John Gebhardt, superintendent of the 22nd Wing Medical Group out of McConnell Air Force Base in Kansas, comforting a wounded Iraqi child in Balad Air Base, Iraq.

John Gebhardt's wife, Mindy, said the little girl's entire family was executed. The insurgents intended to execute the little girl also, and shot her in the head but failed to kill her. She was cared for in John's hospital and was healing but continued to cry and moan. The nurses said John was the only one who seemed to calm her down, so John spent the four nights holding her while they both slept in that chair.
